Villa Sea Breeze

Villa Sea Breeze is a contemporary house of calm, sculptural lines that opens to the sea while protecting the privacy of those who live in it. A single, pared-back volume sits on the site in dialogue with the Madeira landscape.

The semicircular layout creates two wings. Turning their backs to the public street, they keep the interior spaces private. Open to the south, they reach out to embrace the sea glimpsed on the horizon. This orientation makes the most of the sun and lets natural light reach every space in the house.

Light gives body to a sensual silhouette, shaped by soft, curved movements that reach towards the sea. The openings, also curved, are carved into a mass meant to be monolithic, so that the house reads as a single volume hollowed out of concrete. Against this continuous shell, the transparent glazed surfaces strengthen the presence of the structure.

The volume rests on the site with the least possible intervention and draws a stable silhouette, free of abrupt volumes. SAME Architects’ proposal avoids conflict with the natural surroundings and brings movement and dynamism to the façades.
